2nd European Meeting of Green Local Councillors, Vienna 2003
The 2nd European Meeting of Green Local Councillors took place in Vienna from 5th-7th December 2003. Thanks to the cooperation with EFGP, nearly 300 local councillors, MEP’s, vice mayors, mayors and party activists from more than 30 countries participated. On the eve of the EU enlargement to Central and Eastern Europe, the participation of several dozens of Greens from the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia was particularly important and possible due to the geographical position of Vienna.
The meeting focused on requirements applying to a Green European policy viewed from the local and municipal level, but also on crucial questions like the future of public services, global neo-liberalism and challenges for a Green labour-market policy. The circumstances in which the realization of Green ideas and projects in the cities can be achieved were also examined. A booklet with the results of this meeting has been published.
